The brief

A self initiated project that explored how design could encourage more people to cycle in London.

Research & Positioning

I undertook photographic research, spoke to cycling organisations, visited Cycle shows, examined existing products, conducted surveys, sat in the cab of an HGV and attended a cycle safety training session for refuse vehicle drivers.

Concept development

Developing the coat involved learning to use the sewing machines at the London College of Fashion where I adapted a Highstreet coat to product a proof of concept. I further explored mechanisms for transforming parts of the coat to reveal high vis areas for cycling. I also created the branding for the product and tested it with the target audience.
